Terry (“Ter”) Edward Satkowiak of Sterling, Michigan passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on September 11, 2021.  Terry’s death was caused by complications from a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Terry was born on April 25, 1942, in Bay City, Michigan. He graduated from Saint Stanislaus High School.

In 1963, Terry married his high school sweetheart, Karen (Gunther) Satkowiak. In addition to raising four children of their own, Terry and Karen provided a safe place for foster children and welcomed other kids who needed a home throughout the years.

Terry retired from General Motors (GM) Saginaw Steering Gear in 1993 after 31 years. He was a proud member of the United Auto Workers.

Terry loved spending time with family and friends, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always active outdoors, cutting wood, welding a repair, planting the garden, and raising a myriad of farm animals. He greatly enjoyed camping with family and friends. Terry always enjoyed a good story, especially if it involved antique cars, tractors, or the fish that got away. He made many great memories during decades of hunting seasons at the Pine River Hunt Club in Mikado, Michigan. Terry had many loyal canine companions through the years, including “Herman” and “Scooby,” who were at his feet in his final days.

In addition to Karen, his wife of 58 years, Terry is survived by his son, Jon (Kathy) Satkowiak; his daughters, JoDee (Val) Brown and Debra (Patrick) Satkowiak Clowry. Terry is also survived by his grandchildren, Kimberly (Ben) Whitely, Thomas (Kelsie) Passmore, Shelby Satkowiak, Devin Leivo, Blake (Michelle) Brown, KaDee and Matthew Clowry, Sarena and Isabella Satkowiak, Miranda (Justyn) Witzgall, and Cody Sweet, as well as his great-grandchildren, Kinley and Gracynn Whitely, Brett and Morgan Brown. He was looking forward to the arrival of two new great-grandchildren. Terry’s surviving siblings are Lawrence Satkowiak, Sandy (Wally) Gromaski and Diane Bryce.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Isabelle (Salois) Satkowiak and Edward Satkowiak; and his beloved youngest son, Andrew (“Bud”) Satkowiak.  He is also preceded in death by his in-laws, Lottie and William Gunther; his best friend and brother-in-law, Richard Swiecicki; his sister-in-law, Beverly Satkowiak; and brothers-in-law Jeffrey Ellison and Thomas Bryce.

The family extends its gratitude to the special caregivers from Heartland Hospice Care, Sunrise Side Home Healthcare Services, and Sunrise Side Senior Services, especially Amber (RN), Sabrina, Renay, Sharyl, and Michelle. We are so very thankful for the love and support of Mary Ellen Swiecicki, Terry’s sister-in-law.

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church, Standish, Michigan, with Rev. Fr. Ronald Wager officiating.  Cremation will follow. Terry will lie in-state at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church where the family will greet family and friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Terry’s memory to Heartland Hospice Services of West Branch, Michigan (www.promedica.org/waystogive/hospice-memorial-fund/donate/) or the Michigan Parkinson Foundation (www.parkinsonsmi.org).
